Large-scale network rollouts for 5G are on the rise across the globe. Network planners are under more pressure than ever to reach targets while staying within CAPEX budgets. According to IXUS, it was a lot cheaper and easier to do the same work for 4G as planners could swap out equipment on current base stations. There wasn’t this level of densification that places the load on site acquisition. Also, similar to 3G, this rollout requires new antenna models to be installed in conjunction with the old ones. With 5G technology, the Electromagnetic Field (EMF) exposure limitations can cause additional headache, according to IXUS, as a result of the dynamic, multi-beam nature of the antennas. EMF-aware planning is therefore becoming increasingly more important.
